Many ways to get to Staunton, VA

With all of the uncertainty in the world due to COVID, we want to be considerate of your travel plans. We highly encourage you to book tickets that are fully refundable. Wash your hands, wear a mask, and stay healthy!

Option 1

Washington DC (IAD/ DCA)

The first option is to arrive to IAD or DCA. These are major airports so the tickets “to” and “from” should be relatively cheaper. However both of these options are approximately a 2.5 hour drive to Staunton. From DCA you have two options: (1) rental car or (2) Train: You can fully use public transportation to get to Staunton. From DCA you can take the subway to Union Station (amtrak) and from there you can take the Amtrak train (or bus). The Amtrak will drop you off in the middle of town, so you can walk to the venue. Depending on which hotel you choose, you may also be able to walk to your hotel from the train station. From Dulles airport, you could get a bus, but the best option is to rent a car and drive.

Of important note is that if you are traveling from far away, you could spend most of your stay in DC, and just take the train in for the wedding. Second, you can always uber from these places to Stauton, VA. If you divide the cost between people it may not be that bad.

Travel time: DCA to Staunton -159 miles - 2h34m.

Uber: ~$185.98+tip (one-way). Rental ~$95 total for Friday to Sunday.

Travel time: Dulles to Staunton - 143 miles - 2h14m.

Uber: ~$160.41+tip(one-way). Rental ~$121 total for Friday to Sunday.

Train: WAS to STA, ~$48 and up (one-way). 3h54m. 11am-2:54pm (there may be others)

Option 2

Richmond (RIC)

The second option is to fly to Richmond, this is a closer airport then the DC option, and still reasonably priced but less flexible on the time and fly options. From the airport you can get an uber or rent a car to staunton.

Travel time: RIC to Staunton - 116 miles - 1h54m.

Uber ~$128.3+tip (one-way). Rental car: ~$126 for Friday to Sunday

Option 3

Charlottesville (CHO)

The third option is to fly to Charlottesville, VA. Although smaller than Richmond and DCA (i.e. probably higher prices, and less fly-time options), it is very convenient, the airport is small but efficient and the 3 major airlines flight into it. The price may be a bit higher than Richmond’s and DC’s option but make sure to take into account the full-cost for comparison (i.e. rental car, etc). This is still not in Staunton, VA so you still will need either an uber, rental car, or an uber to the train station and take the train to staunton.

Travel time: CHO to Staunton - 45.8 miles -56 min

Uber ~$68.21 (one-way). Rental car: ~$105 total fro Friday to Sunday.

Train: CVS to STA ~ 16$ (one-way). 1h2m. 1:52pm-2:54pm (Uber to train station ~$20)

Option 4

Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport

This is the last airport option. It is the smallest airport, I believe only United Airlines flies here. I’m not sure about the price options but it is also the closest airport. From there you can rent a car or take an uber to Staunton.

Travel Time: SHD to Stauton - 18.4 miles - ~24min

Uber: ~32.99 (one-way). Rental Car: ~$87 total Friday to Sunday.
